( Matthew 5:31-32 ) It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving (except) for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
He said “Whosoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery”. First he must be putting away His wife, and not someone else’s wife, to cause her to commit adultery. If the married people commit adultery when they mix with strange flesh, what would be the cause of fornication situation? What is fornication in the light of The Word of God? (Galatians 5:19) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. . .
Both adultery and fornication are listed as works of the flesh, but they are not the same. If you will look at the view of scriptures we see that only two are listed with fornication when talking about adultery and putting away of ones spouse.
( Matthew 5:32 ) But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. AND ; Matthew 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
( Romans 1:29 ) Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; . . . ., was talking about those who were turned over to reprobate toward God. Also to Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.... Also Paul warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
He also includes Fornication in with Adultery in the works of unrighteousness.
( 1 Corinthians 6:9 ) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, . . .. . . .shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Since adultery is also sex with another, we can also see that when your married by the Law of God, one’s fornication becomes one’s adultery against the other spouse. Because you are adulterating one’s self with another that is not your flesh, or you are causing one to adulterate by putting that person away. Only when one is single is he or she committing fornication, because there is no spouse to adulterate against.
All the rest of the scriptures on adultery are talking about an unlawful sexual relation between parties of married people weather male or female. Sex outside of marriage is always classified in scripture as fornication. For example… Jude 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
